When you think about braces, you probably picture
traditional metal braces. They have been correcting smiles for many, many years. While traditional metal braces have done their job, they have not been without problems. Traditional metal braces can be uncomfortable to wear, and they take a long time.
It can also be difficult to keep traditional metal braces clean because it is easy to get food stuck in them. There is a new type of metal braces that are now making people smile. These are
self-ligating braces. If you would like to learn more, we here at Robinson Orthodontics would love to tell you why Damon braces are making such a difference for so many people.
The Benefits of Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces have many benefits that you will not find with traditional metal braces or even
aligners. Here are some of them.
Unlike traditional braces, self-ligating braces use a self-litigating system. This means that they will adjust as your teeth are corrected. This makes them more comfortable. It also means that you will have to spend less time at our office. The self-ligating braces do not need to be tightened and adjusted all the time as traditional braces do. You will still come in and see us; it just might not be as often.
When a patient receives traditional braces, there is often a complaint about pain. That does not happen nearly as often with self-ligating braces. They provide much more comfort.
One major benefit of self-ligating braces is that they do not need to be worn as long as traditional braces do. Traditional braces are often on for up to two years. Self-ligating braces can often be worn about six months less than that. To a teenager, that is a very big difference.
Clear Self-Ligating braces are also appealing to adults. They only use one strip of wire, and the brackets can be clear. This means that they are not as obvious as traditional braces.
One of the hardest things to do with traditional metal braces is to keep the teeth and braces clean because food will get caught in them all too often. That is not a problem with self-ligating braces. Because of the way that they are designed, food will not get caught in them. If there is food in your self ligating braces, it is easy enough to brush it away.
Self-ligating are also better for your overall
oral hygiene. Since it is so hard to get food trapped in them, there will be less of a chance for plaque and bacteria to build up. That is another way that your teeth will stay cleaner.
With self-ligating braces, you have another choice to straighten your teeth.
